Doris Gallardo is a community leader in the town of Quebrada Guabo. As the former president of the Ngäbe women's association ASMUNG (Asociación de Mujeres Ngäbe-Buglé) she has worked to empower, organize, educate and improve the quality of life for women and their families in the Comarca Ngäbe-Buglé. For this reason, she has volunteered with Few for Change since 2010. Doris explains that “It (FFC) is a program that helps the youth to have the same vision that you have in your country (USA), that they can also do, that they can also achieve, so that in a short time they can also be successful. I feel very proud, it is a pleasure to work with FFC.”

Doris acts as the FFC representative in the community of Quebrada Guabo and other neighboring communities, promoting the FFC scholarship, distributing scholarship applications, and collecting important student documents. Additionally, her assistance is integral to organizing the annual scholarship ceremony in Quebrada Guabo. Doris has high expectations for the FFC scholarship students, her community, and the Comarca. Doris hopes “that all of the students graduate high school, that they all graduate from university, and that they start a very visionary program for the Comarca. We are working on a very small part here, if you travel in the Comarca, you will see there is so much need, it is difficult for students from other areas to travel to school. The youth that dream and have goals for the future, I think they can achieve it.” Doris also organizes workshops for FFC scholarship recipients focused on community service and building confidence and self esteem.
